Honda CR-Z Mugen RR

003 honda mugen cr z rr 450x300 Honda CR Z Mugen RR production hopes dashed
If it’s too early to start drinking, crack open a cold one anyway. You’re gonna need a beer to cry into. Top Gear reports that Honda has no plans to produce the CR-Z Mugen RR Hybrid Concept. Zero. None. While we saw this coming a mile off, some deeply-oppressed optimistic shard of our psyche clung to the hope that Honda would awaken from its performance coma. Alas, no. The world will be denied the CR-Z it deserves.

We probably don’t need to remind you that the CR-Z Mugen RR Hybrid Concept makes heavy use of carbon fiber. The doors, hood and front fenders are all formed from the lightweight material, as is a complete underbody tray. With 197 horsepower on tap, the concept clicks off a 0-60 dash in 6.6 seconds, and if you’re restrained enough to run it in Eco mode, it can return somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 mpg.

The F430 welcomes the arrival of a new generation of Ferrari V8 engine berlinettas. Every inch of the car was inspired by the engineering research carried out at Ferrari Gestione Sportiva F1 racing division. The result is a highly innovative design characterized by cutting-edge technologies perfected for use in a road car.

The current generation of Ferrari F430 happened around 360 in 2004 and since then we have created special versions, including the F430 Scuderia, which was unveiled by Michael Schumacher in last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Having been in business for four years, taking into account the extent of his predecessor had six years of life, we can only assume that the Italians have a development on track for a replacement. Obviously now we have no idea what the future may bring, but that did not stop the Italian designer Luca Serafini of producing a host of other impressive close rendering of a concept that the successor to the F430 looks like.

The project follows tried and tested process of Luca: Brainstorming – sketches – concept – modeling. “Feeling the need to replace the 430, I started looking for more classic models of Ferrari. It was important for me to get the new concept of a journey through the past, ” said Luca.

The Most Legendary Ferrari F430 Cars

A legendary car by Ferrari. From every side, this car still looking god and fantastic. A great deal of Ferrari heritage is found in the car: at the rear, the Enzo’s tail lights and interior vents have been added. The car’s name has been etched into the Testarossa-styled driver’s side mirror. The large oval openings in the front bumper are reminiscent of Ferrari racing models from the 60s, specifically the 156 “sharknose” Formula One car and 250 TR61 Le Mans cars of Phil Hill.

The F430 features a 4.3L V8 petrol engine derived from a shared Ferrari/Maserati design. This new power plant is a significant departure for Ferrari: all previous Ferrari V8s were descendants of the Dino racing program of the 1950s. The engine’s output specifications are: 490 PS (360 kW; 483 hp) at 8500 rpm and 465 N·m (343 lb·ft) of torque at 5250 rpm, 80% of which is available below 3500rpm. Despite a 20% increase in displacement, engine weight had grown by only 4 kg and engine dimensions have decreased, for easier packaging. The conrods, pistons and crankshaft are all entirely new, the four-valve cylinder head, valve heads and intake trumpets directly takes measurements from F1 engines, for better volumetric efficiency. The F430 has a top speed of 200 mph (320 km/h).  Ferrari also claims the car sprints from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.0 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than the old model.

[6] The result has been a new cast-iron alloy for the discs. Ceramics have much higher resistance to heat and brake fade than metals, the F430′s brakes offer not only good performance but also a longer lifespan. Ferrari claims the brakes will not fade even after 300-360 laps at their test track. The F430 includes the E-Diff, a computer-controlled limited slip active differential which can vary the distribution of torque based on inputs such as steering angle and lateral acceleration.

Other notable features include the first application of Ferrari’s manettino steering wheel-mounted control knob.[1]The feature is similar to Land Rover’s “Terrain Response” system. The Ferrari F430 was also released with exclusive Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 EMT tires, which have a striking V-shaped tread design, run-flat capability, and OneTRED technology.

Nissan Rogue Review

2008 Nissan Rogue
Introduction
Crossovers and their usefulness have always fascinated me so I welcomed the opportunity to drive one for a few days. The online dictionary describes “rogue” as “a deceitful and unreliable scoundrel” (noun) or “unpredictable” (adj). Based on my test drive, I found neither to be true, and enjoyed the highway ride on a trip to Mt Tamalpais. Its futuristic design separates it from the competition, and though smaller inside, still had plenty of space for a weekend trip for two.

2008 Nissan Rogue
Driving Impressions
Beating the competition’s 4-cylinder horsepower ratings, the Rogue easily climbs steep roads. Curious to see what it could do going up Highway 92 from 101 to 280, I floored it. The engine revs and whines while the CVT smoothly adjust it’s gearing allowing me to easily pass cars. Pretty impressive for a little 4-banger. Cruising on the freeway is where the Rogue seems most at home. Feeling relaxed and composed, I could easily drive this crossover for hours-on-end while perched on its comfortable seats. The sloping hood gives a good view of the road in the front, but looking back, the rearward-tapering windows and thick c-pillar create a wall of darkness over my right shoulder. I more than once had to preen my neck to check the blind spot on the right-side or ask my girlfriend to see if there were any vehicles before changing lanes. The stock headlights illuminate well, but the underpowered fog lights add little supplementary lighting to the immediate area ahead of the Rogue.

Build
For a first crossover offering, Nissan produces a quality vehicle. There were no annoying rattles or loose parts during the test drive, and all of the doors closed with a light touch. The dash is an expanse of plastic with the arc-shaped center console splitting the dash, and seam transitions are tight and gap-free. Rear passenger leg room is tight if you have a tall-person sitting in front, though like the front seats, they’re comfortable for long trips.

The SL-trim includes silver roof rails which are nice to have, but they lack crossbars. There are sets of fore and aft-screws on the inside of each of the rails, and I assume they’re for attaching crossbars. I guess I’d have to order these separately from Nissan (or go aftermarket) before I could install my Thule bike mounts.

Interior
The interior is well designed and laid out. The steeply sloped windshield and roofline appear to limit headroom, but found this to not be true. You feel enveloped in the cockpit, but not confined. Buttons and controls are well-labeled and large with everything in easy reach. Loading CD’s into the Bose required a short wait after pressing the “LOAD” button, and seemed a lot longer than most in-dash changers. If you opt for the SL, definitely get the Premium package that includes the upgraded Bose audio system. It plays loudly and accurately reproduced all the music I played through it. The HVAC controls are distributed among three large dials below the Bose radio. The dials are clearly marked with colors or icons, and are easy to modulate to just the right temperature or setting. One of the features of the interior that impressed me was the air vents. Yeah, that’s right, the vents. The circular vents rotate easily with slight detents, and the vanes open/close with a light push of the finger. The design is extremely simple yet amazingly effective in directing air exactly where desired.

Performance
For the most of the test drive, I left the car in automatic mode, and let the Rogue figure out the gearing. The manual-mode did a decent job of “holding” a gear till I shifted. Probably the best feature that I enjoyed (from both a usability and performance standpoint) was tapping the shift paddles while in auto mode. The CVT steps down a gear, and holds it while I floored the pedal allowing aggressive passes to happen without waiting. And after the vehicle speed normalizes, the CVT returns to automatic mode … automatically. How cool is that! It’s loud when you floor it, but the Nissan feels fast as the rev’s build. The dynamics are OK, but wish the suspension was a bit firmer for spirited driving. On the roads up to Mt. Tamalpais, the soft suspension did not inspire confidence. Brake dive was also prevalent under extremely hard braking; my initial feeling to the brake dive felt as if I was about to tip forward out of my chair. A firmer suspension or brake proportioning may reduce the unsettling response. Otherwise, the Rogue stopped repeatedly smoothly and quickly.

Handling
The Rogue is basically a taller Altima, and the extra weight up high makes it lean a bit more than the Altima. The suspension did a decent job of hugging the curves never breaking loose but the body lean was unsettling as the driver. I never felt confident pushing it past a certain point. I’d opt for an upgraded suspension to ameliorate the lean. The steering had an adequate on-center feel, but I longed for a slightly tighter connection between the steering wheel and the road ahead. Don’t get me wrong, driving on the freeway was fine, but to me, there seemed to be a slight lag between my steering input and a directional change. At speeds just shy of 100 mph, the Rogue is very stable and smooth-riding.

Styling
Is this a Nissan? Just look at the front, and you’d know immediately. You can see the family resemblance to the Altima, Maxima, and bigger Murano. Though smooth and well sculpted, the design lacks individuality (compared with its brethren) and character. As Nissan’s first foray into the crossover market, a more unique design would have gone a long way into branding the vehicle. The upswept tapered rear windows limit visibility and light infiltration. The interior is already dark enough with its gray/charcoal interior. Why make it darker? I think the lower window line should have gone straight-back (rather than curving upward at the rear door) extending farther into the C-pillar. The lines would flow better and make the car seem larger than it actually is with an added benefit of better visibility to the sides. With the tapered-window design, the Rogue just looks like it has a fat rear-end.

2008 Nissan Rogue
Value
Nissan’s competition in this field is tough. You have more mature offerings from Honda, Toyota and Ford, as well as newer competition from Mitsubishi and even Saturn. The Rogue offers a lot of standard features, but is slightly smaller than its competition. Price-wise, all of the competition is fairly close to one another and choice would come down to features and engine selection. The rear seats fold down increasing the cargo capacity, and would be perfect for trips to Home Depot or Ikea where large boxes would cause consternation in a sedan. For someone moving up from a small compact car, this would be the perfect transition vehicle. It’s easy to drive and maneuver around town, and gets decent gas mileage (I averaged a little over 23 mpg). I think Nissan did a good job with its first attempt, and will hopefully correct some of the design shortfalls in future versions.

Conclusion
One limitation of the Rogue is its single-engine offering while the competition offers both 4-cylinder and V-6 engines. A true test of the engine would be going up to Lake Tahoe fully loaded with friends and gear. With two people and minimal gear, the 4-cylinder engine was unstressed. Though I didn’t get a chance to use it for a run to the grocery store, the lift-up storage tray with netting separators is a nice feature. Using my Acura Integra, I have to be deliberate about placing the shopping bags to prevent them from sliding all over the place. The Nissan’s design is fresh and unique compared to the competition, and the Rogue performs admirably on the road especially on long stretches of highways. The potholes created by our rainy January were barely felt, and over almost anything I threw at it, the Rogue’s suspension just sucked it up. If you’re looking for a comfortable, reliable, easy-to-drive and smaller crossover utility vehicle, this would be the choice.

Mini Coupe Concept revealed

The Mini Coupe Concept will be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The rel...
Mini celebrated its 50th birthday on August 26, 2009 with BMW announcing it will unveil the very sleek Mini Coupe Concept at the forthcoming Frankfurt Motor Show (17-27 September). This two-seater will happily take the most powerful engine currently available in the Mini range (the 1.6-liter twin-scroll turbocharged power unit carried over from the 2010 Mini John Cooper Works), with a maximum output of 155kW/211hp and peak torque of 260Nm/192lb-ft. Through the Overboost function, this increases to 280Nm/206lb-ft. for a short burst. Add to that its improved aerodynamics and it’s no wonder BMW is confident that this model Mini will deliver the best ever performance.

Quick is good, but the new Mini will also have lower emissions and deliver a greater driver experience, says BMW.

The company adds that the Mini Coupe Concept incorporates a wide range of features aimed at delivering a truly sporting and ambitious style of motoring. The lightweight two-seater has the distinctive Mini’s compact dimensions, low center of gravity and great axle load distribution. At the same time the low roofline, the precisely-defined spoiler edge at the rear and other aerodynamic features enhance the car's performance to an even higher standard.
The Mini Coupe Concept is 3,714mm (146.2 inches) long, 1,683mm (66.3 inches) wide and 1356mm (53.4 inches) tall, gving the Mini Coup the look of a muscular sports machine.

The hexagonal grille and the large round headlights are unmistakable design features re-interpreting the front view of the classic Mini in particularly modern style. The indicators are integrated in the headlights, just above the innovative three-dimensional surrounds for the positioning lights and the foglamps. The entire front air dam has been adjusted to the sporting look of the car, standing out even wider and more striking than before.
Learning from the past
Much of the look of the Mini Coupe comes from a well-chosen selection of past models – a sort of sampling of the best, most distinctive stylings from previous favorites. The chrome radiator grille on the Mini Coupe Concept is the same as on the Mini Cooper S. However, the inner section in the grille is finished with bars in body color creating a clear sign of distinction at very first sight from the other members of the Mini family. The bonnet stripes also extend into the radiator grille to provide an even more sporting and dynamic look.

The side view of the Mini Coupe Concept also brings together features typical of the Mini family.

Large wheels and a high waistline, already featuring on the Mini, the Mini Clubman and the Mini Convertible, are used here to good effect, with the black strip around the lower section of the body underlining this compact appearance.

All this is emphasized with the help of the new sloping windscreen, a departure from previous models. The screen flows through into the unique roofline to give an even more dynamic look than on the brand's ‘regular’ models.

And the rear roofline is unique for this Mini. BMW describes the roof design as “bridge shape”, made up of a strong rear cornerstone formed by the C-pillar and the almost filigree structure above the passenger cell. The C-pillar aids in occupant safety and provides rigid body structure for maneuverability.
The rear-end of the Mini Coupe Concept is designed to optimize the flow of air to improve driving dynamics and efficiency, while the rear spoiler with its wing profile at the same level as the C-pillar also helps increase downforce on the rear axle.

The rear window merges into the low rear end smoothly to optimize airflow and aerodynamics, which is why the air spoiler on the rear panel is appropriately sharp and clear in its profile.

Beneath the air spoiler we again see that typical Mini styling the brand is famous for - the upright rear light clusters surrounded by a wide chrome frame, and the wide track and the body growing wider from top to bottom highlighting the muscular stance of the car.

The tailgate on the Mini Coupe Concept is yet another highlight of the car. The two-seater has foregone the rear bench seat to offer a larger luggage capacity of 250 liters. The entire tailgate, including the rear window, swings up to provide access to the luggage space.

The bulkhead between the passenger and the luggage compartments comes with a lockable opening to provide driver and passenger with access to the luggage compartment without having to exit the car.

Inside the cabin the Mini has a three-spoke leather sports steering wheel with multifunction buttons. Other controls are arranged ergonomically on the dashboard, taking into account their frequency of use.

The Mini Coupe Concept has a large rev counter directly behind the steering wheel, while the speedometer is part of the central instrument in the upper section of the dashboard. This circular instrument, known as the Center Speedo, also houses the audio system as well as the optional entertainment and navigation functions.
The Mini Couple Concept
Two Chronoswiss clocks to the right and left of the rev counter deliver a classic Mini display. One dial provides a lap-timer and the other a timepiece.

Interior colors and materials symbolize the classic sportiness of the car. Like the dashboard, the roof lining are black and black trim bars combined with a carbon interior trim strip, finally, further enhance this purist look.
The Coupe is naturally front-wheel drive, has powerful disc brakes on all four wheels, the front axle has McPherson spring struts and a centrally-guided rear axle has aluminum longitudinal arms and anti-roll bars to provide safe handling.

Electronic power steering with speed-related power assistance gives the driver exact feedback at all times on road and driving conditions.

All in all, it's unmistakably a Mini. How much? We don't know yet, but if you like your small cars to fast, this should be a cracker.

2011 Corvette z06 Car Reviews

Five years ago, the sixth-generation Corvette Z06 stunned the sports car world. Powered by a 7.0 Liter V8 and sporting an aluminum frame plus the use of select carbon-fiber components, it offers an outstanding power-to-weight ratio. Now for 2011, Z06 models come standard with new, second-generation Goodyear® Eagle® F1 Supercar tires as well as new exhaust tuning. Magnetic Selective Ride Control (MSRC) is also available for the first time. But the bigger news is the NEW Z07 Performance Package (which includes MSRC) and the NEW CFZ Carbon Fiber Package culminating in the Z06 Carbon Limited Edition.

mpressive brakes are necessary to stop a sports car capable of a test-track top speed of 198 mph. Z06 uses monoblock six-piston front calipers and four-piston rears. The extra-large 14-inch front rotors and 13.4-inch rears are vented and cross-drilled. Launch control is standard with the short-throw six-speed manual gearbox. It modulates engine rpm to lay the power down more smoothly while providing consistent acceleration times on the test track. Z06 is powered by a 7.0 Liter LS7 aluminum block V8 with an 11.0:1 compression ratio. It delivers an SAE-certified 505 hp at 6300 rpm and 470 lb.-ft. of torque at 4800 rpm. The engine employs lightweight titanium intake valves and connecting rods and contains a high-performance dry-sump oil system, which distributes pressurized oil to protect vital components under high-g driving conditions.Helping Z06 perform even better is the fact that it is the lightest Corvette at 3,175 lbs., thanks to a litany of racing-derived components. The MSRP for 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 starts at $74,305.
